CentOS 6 ships with an unsupported MySQL version. Thus, we need to include the [https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/repo/yum/ MySQL yum repo] to get the latest stable MySQL version. To do so, run as root:
{{#tag:syntaxhighlight| | {{#tag:syntaxhighlight
yum install mysql-devel mysql-server | rpm -Uvh https://dev.mysql.com/get/mysql57-community-release-el6-8.noarch.rpm
|lang=bash}} | |||
'''Careful''': This enables additional repositories. If you wish, you may disable these repositories to avoid undesired packages and versions to be pulled in. You can do this by setting <code>enabled=0</code> for all repos in the files <tt>/etc/yum.repos.d/mysql-community*.repo</tt>.
Install required packages as root and activate the server:
{{#tag:syntaxhighlight
yum --enablerepo=mysql57-community install mysql-devel mysql-server
chkconfig --level 3 mysqld on | chkconfig --level 3 mysqld on
service mysqld start | service mysqld start |
