'''XMPP transport'''

It is possible to connect to these IRC channels via XMPP protocol using services called "XMPP IRC transport". If your pod provides XMPP support, then you can use your account to communicate at these servers. Of course you can use any other XMPP account. Unfortunately, the web UI that diaspora provides is too poor to achieve that, so you'll need another XMPP client for that, e.g. Pidgin. One day there will be detailed instructions on how to achieve that.

Receive project news (Updates, Security fixes, ...)

There are multiple channels for important news, including:

Talk with us

On diaspora* itself

The official project account is hq@pod.diaspora.software - feel free to send feedback via there!

Press inquiries

Any inquiries from media for interviews or QA, you can also post them to our press team directly at press@diasporafoundation.org.

Discourse

Our primary place for practicing community governance is the official diaspora* Discourse. The tool is used for discussions on governance, process and technical topics, and it also functions as a voting tool, when decisions need to be made.

Discussion and support gives a more in-depth view of how things are organized there, and that article is also viewed as a guide in case you want to participate.

IRC

If you have questions about anything Diaspora-related, the best way to get an answer quickly is to visit us in IRC. An IRC “channel” is roughly equivalent to a chatroom, or a text-based group chat in Skype, or a Campfire room.

It’s fairly low-tech as group communication goes, but since we have contributors all over the world in different time zones and with different levels of internet access, it works well for us.

Channels

We have several IRC channels. Click the link to join the channel in a browser window. You can also download and use an IRC client such as Colloquy for OS X, mIRC for Windows, XChat or Konversation for Linux distros or Pidgin for any of these platforms.

Oh and don’t ask if you can ask something, just ask.

XMPP transport

It is possible to connect to these IRC channels via XMPP protocol using services called "XMPP IRC transport". If your pod provides XMPP support, then you can use your account to communicate at these servers. Of course you can use any other XMPP account. Unfortunately, the web UI that diaspora provides is too poor to achieve that, so you'll need another XMPP client for that, e.g. Pidgin. One day there will be detailed instructions on how to achieve that.

Other

You can also interact with our Twitter and Facebook accounts, but don't expect too much reactivity there. We don't like to use services built on commercial data processing. There is also an unofficial Russian language group in the VK.com social network.

Mailing Lists

»» Important
We do not use Google groups anymore, please come on Github to report bugs and talk about the code or on Discourse for everything else.

You can find our list’s web interfaces on Google Groups.

Unsubscribing from a mailing list

To unsubscribe from the “diaspora-discuss” mailing list, send an mail with whatever content to diaspora-discuss+unsubscribe@googlegroups.com. You’ll get an email from Google Groups indicating that you have unsubscribed.

Jabber/XMPP

Note that all of these are unofficial and community run, don't rely on finding core project members there.
