Receive project news (Updates, Security fixes, ...)

There are multiple channels for important news, including:

the official diaspora* project account: hq[at]pod.diaspora.software.
the official blog at blog.diasporafoundation.org, which also offers an Atom feed.
the announcements category on Discourse, to which you can subscribe if you have a Discourse account.

Any inquiries from media for interviews or QA, you can also post them to our press team directly at press@diasporafoundation.org.

Discourse

Our primary place for practicing community governance is the official diaspora* Discourse. The tool is used for discussions on governance, process and technical topics, and it also functions as a voting tool, when decisions need to be made.

Discussion and support gives a more in-depth view of how things are organized there, and that article is also viewed as a guide in case you want to participate.

IRC

Note:

If you do not receive an answer to your question, please open a thread in our Discourse Forum instead. This allows us to answer you asynchronously, without being in the same timezone or being online at the same time.

If you have questions about anything Diaspora-related, the best way to get an answer quickly is to visit us in IRC. An IRC “channel” is roughly equivalent to a chatroom, or a text-based group chat in Skype, or a Campfire room.

It’s fairly low-tech as group communication goes, but since we have contributors all over the world in different time zones and with different levels of internet access, it works well for us.

Click the link to join the channel in a browser window. You can also download and use an IRC client such as Colloquy for OS X, mIRC for Windows, XChat or Konversation for Linux distros or Pidgin for any of these platforms.

Oh and don’t ask if you can ask something, just ask.

Other

You can also interact with our Twitter and Facebook accounts, but don't expect too much reactivity there. We don't like to use services built on commercial data processing. There is also an unofficial Russian language group in the VK.com social network.
