Diaspora has dual id system where one is the webfinger address and the other is a 17 hexadecimal character string so that makes an address space of 295,147,905,179,352,825,856 addresses, which is nice.

The usefullness of lifetime email relay service is most obvious when always using the address to register to websites and services as passwords can be recovered years of tens of years after registration.

Iki.fi provides only private individuals with these addresses, not businesses or other entities.

Each new alias must be approved by the board meeting of the association and as the service is for Finnish locals only the existence and right identity of joiners can be easily and reliably confirmed significantly lowering the risk of abuse.

To relay email traffic almost no CPU and no disk is required, only IP traffic.
